1. Getting Started
Joining Stay One Degree is easy, quick and free:
1. Go to Join Us. Type your first name, last name, email address and a password.
2. You will be sent a verification email to the address provided. Once you click the link you are ready to go.
3. Once you have joined, you will be prompted to create your Profile Page and invite your friends to join your One Degree network.
2. Build your One Degree Network
What Is Your One Degree Network?
Your One Degree (1°) network is your circle of trust. Family, friends, work colleagues, friends of friends. Ultimately people you trust to rent your home. You will see a 1° icon next to their profile picture. Your One Degree network can book your home and view your Full Listing information with daily rates and availability calendar.
Your Second Degree (2°) network are people who are connected to your One Degree and are shown with a 2° icon. They can view your Full Listing information but are NOT able to make a booking. You can invite them to become One Degree by clicking 1° Connect.
Home Owners also have a on their profile picture.
To search for your friends, click the search friends icon and enter their first and last name.
Click 1° Connect to send them an invitation.
You have a number of options to invite your friends to connect on Stay One Degree:
1. Import your contacts and send them an invitation email.
2. Send an invitation request via Whatsapp messenger.
3. For existing users, you can send them a 1° Connect request.
Who Do You Know?
Stay One Degree will make recommendations as to people you might know to connect with.
My 1° Network
You can view your full One Degree network within Connections on your Dashboard.
If you wish to remove a One Degree connection, within My 1° Network you can click Disconnect.
Accepting One Degree Requests
We recommend you only accept One Degree requests from people you know or have been recommended by other friends as your One Degree network are able to view your Full Listing information and make bookings. You can decline requests from people that you do not know.
3. Manage Your Account
Your Personal Profile
Your Profile is what other users see when they click on your profile picture. You can change your details by clicking My Profile and then editing and saving the new details. A profile picture is recommended to help identify you. You can click on the camera icon to access a photo in your browser.
Your email address, mobile phone and emergency contact details will remain confidential and not be visible to other users. This information will only be shared with another user when you have a confirmed reservation.
Resetting Your Password
You can reset your password within Account Settings.
4. Home Owners
Listing A Home
Whether you wish to let your home for one week or fifty two. The choice is yours.
Within the Dashboard, go to Manage My Homes and Add New Home. You will then be walked through the simple steps to list your home. You can edit the details including the availability calendar and rates at any time.
Your Full Listing information containing the pictures of your home, availability calendar, location map and rates are only viewable by your One and Two Degree network. Other users can only view the Basic Listing information of your home.
We recommend professionally taken photos to showcase your home. You will need to select the cover photo. The cover photo and 2 other photos will be viewable to all users. The remaining photos will only be viewable by your One and Two Degree network.
You are able to set the dates that your home is available. You can do this when you initially list the property and subsequently edit within Manage My Homes.
Setting Minimum And Maximum Nights
You can set a minimum and maximum number of nights within Manage My Homes.
Rates can be set on a daily basis so that you can adjust for weekends and high, medium and low seasons. Any additional expenses such as cleaning fees should be included in the rate you set so that your Guest sees one single transparent price.
You can adjust the daily rates as required to reflect a “Friends Discount”.
Only your One Degree network will be able to make a booking at your home. You can either select Instant Bookings or to receive Booking Requests.
Instant Bookings - guests are able to instantly confirm a booking at your home for available dates on your calendar.
Booking Requests – you will receive an email for your approval to confirm the booking. You are required to respond with 24 hours to accept or decline the booking.
While a Booking Request is outstanding, the dates are automatically blocked on your calendar so other Guests are unable to book them.
You can edit these settings within Review Guest Booking.
Receiving Payment From Stay One Degree
Stay One Degree uses PayPal to securely send payments to Home Owners.
All Home Owners are required to create a PayPal account. You can register your Paypal account within Account Settings. To find out more about PayPal, including how to create an account, visit PayPal.com.
The payment you will receive will be the nightly rate multiplied by the number of nights minus a Booking Fee. You can view the exact breakdown in Home Reservations on the Dashboard.
Stay One Degree will deposit the funds to your PayPal account having deducted the Booking Fee as they are received from your Guests:
50% non-refundable payment less the Booking Fee on confirming the booking request.
Remaining 50% payment around 30 days before check-in.
For any bookings accepted within 30 days of arrival, the full payment amount less the Booking Fee will be deposited into your PayPal account. This is non-refundable.
Home Owners are charged a Booking Fee for each booking made via Stay One Degree. The Booking Fee is 8%.
A Home Owner can select to include a Security Deposit in their listing prior to confirming a booking. The maximum amount of the Security Deposit is US$5,000. If the Home Owner wishes to make a claim on the Security Deposit, the Home Owner must contact Stay One Degree within 30 days of checkout or prior to the next Guest, whichever is earlier, including full details of the claim they wish to make. Stay One Degree will provide assistance in mediating with the Guest. If the Guest agrees to pay the Home Owner in connection with any damage or Stay One Degree determines that the Guest is responsible for any damage, Stay One Degree may charge the Payment Method used to make the booking for the amount of the damage claim.
Home Owner Cancellation
In the event you cancel a booking at your home, you are required to issue a refund in full to the Guest including the Payment Fee. The Booking Fee paid to Stay One Degree is non-refundable.
Contacting Home Owners
You can use the Message function to ask home owners any questions.
To make a booking you will need to be a One Degree connection with the Home Owner. If you are not a One Degree connection, you will need to send a 1° Connect message prior to being able to request a booking.
Once a reservation is confirmed, the logistics of check-in, exchanging keys and check-out should be arranged directly with the Home Owner. You will be provided their mobile telephone number and email as part of your booking confirmation.
Making A Booking On Stay One Degree
To make a booking you are required to be a One Degree connection with the Home Owner. If you are not a One Degree connection, you will need to send the Home Owner a 1° Connect request and be accepted before you can make a booking.
Once you are One Degree connected, you can contact the Home Owner on messenger to discuss the property and ask any questions or special requests. Whether you can book instantly or require a confirmation from the home owner will depend on the owners’ preference. If the Home Owner requires to approve reservations, you will receive a confirmation within 24 hours. Your booking is held for this period so that no-one else can book the same period. If there is no response within 24 hours the booking is cancelled.
Verifying The Property
Trust is a key component of the Stay One Degree community. If you do not directly know the Home Owner that you are renting from, we recommend that you confirm their identity by contacting another mutual One Degree connection. You can also message previous Guests that have stayed at the property and have provided a review.
When making or accepting bookings from people you do not know, we would also recommend that you verify their identity with another mutual One Degree connection. You can also request proofs of identity from the Guests and that Guests sign a rental agreement.
1. To confirm the booking a 50% non-refundable payment is required.
2. The balance is due at least 30 days prior to arrival. Once the balance has been paid, the booking is non-refundable.
3. When booking within 30 days of arrival, a full non-refundable payment is required.
Home Owner Cancellation
If the Home Owner cancels your stay, the Home Owner is required to issue a refund in full including the Payment Fee.
Payments On Stay One Degree
Your payment information details are collected when you submit a reservation request and your credit card pre-authorized for the full booking amount. 50% of the amount payable plus the Payment Fee will be charged once the reservation is confirmed. The residual 50% will be charged around 30 days prior to check-in.
If the Home Owner does not confirm your booking within 24 hours, the booking is automatically cancelled. You will not be charged and can go ahead and make another booking.
Stay One Degree charges Guests a Payment Fee to cover the cost of processing the booking payment with a credit card in any currency. The Payment Fee is typically 4.5% of the overall booking cost and is charged when your reservation is confirmed.
Our approach to payments is simple. Paying with a credit card is the most secure way to pay online and so this is what we offer. Your holiday is too valuable to take any risk. Offline or cash payments breach our Terms and Conditions. Payments are made in the preferred currency of the Home Owner.
Home Owners can select to include a Security Deposit in their listing prior to confirming a booking. The maximum amount of the Security Deposit is US$5,000. You will see the exact amount of the Security Deposit at the time of confirming the booking.
If the Home Owner wishes to make a claim on the Security Deposit, the Home Owner must contact Stay One Degree within 30 days of checkout or prior to the next Guest, whichever is earlier, including full details of the claim they wish to make. Stay One Degree will provide assistance in mediating with the Guest. If the Guest agrees to pay the Home Owner in connection with any damage or Stay One Degree determines that the Guest is responsible for any damage, Stay One Degree may charge the Payment Method used to make the booking for the amount of the damage claim.
